The Research & Development tax team is a highly successful group of tax and industry specialists who work on a variety of very high profile clients, including a number of household FTSE 100 and 250 multinationals.

This team are enjoying continued growth in this new and exciting field of tax that was introduced by the government to encourage UK companies to invest in innovation in 2000. 

As an experienced and enthusiastic individual, you have the opportunity to be part of a growing and dynamic national Big 4 practice, providing a unique opportunity to specialise in a specific tax discipline and to gain exposure to a wide variety of industries.

Your main responsibility will be to work very closely with the client's senior tax officers.  Leveraging from your corporate tax knowledge, you will be responsible for delivery of R&D tax claims for clients in a wide cross-section of industry sectors. 

The role:

  • Ensuring technical tax excellence and applying this knowledge to identifying eligible R&D expenditure.
  • Understanding and interpreting financial databases and ERP systems.
  • Developing efficient methodologies and practical costing solutions to identifying eligible R&D costs embedded in large and disparate databases and other extensive costing information.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the tax legislation, and forming strong arguments to support your opinion in untested law cases and complicated legislative matters.
  • Supporting clients in responding to HMRC enquiries into R&D tax claims by replying to issues raised by HMRC.
  • Assisting the team in management of internal work processes.
  • Tracking and maintaining the status of client engagements and pursuits.
  •  Supporting the Partner and/or Director in winning new clients by leveraging from innovative solutions through the preparation and delivery of proposals.
  • Managing possible leads from other areas of the tax practice and building relationships with these referred clients.
  • Developing and building an internal network within the other functions of the business.
  •  Maintaining an up to date tax technical knowledge.

Experience:

  • Strong UK corporate tax knowledge and experience.
  • R & D tax - technical knowledge from the UK, US, Canada or Australia is desirable, but not essential.
  • Cost accounting and financial accounting abilities.
  • Excellent excel spreadsheet abilities including pivot tables and data cleansing.
  • Professional services background (Big 4 or mid tier) or from industry.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally ACA, ACCA, CA or CTA qualified.
